Sedation Dentistry

We understand a person's fright towards dental procedures. At Vancouver Harbour Dental we provide sedation dentistry, not only to the fearful, but also to the patients who undergo lengthy procedures like cosmetic dentistry. This type of procedure is also apt for people who hope to accomplish more in a single visit to the dentist.

Types of Sedation:

At Vancouver Harbour Dental, we offer 3 types of dental sedation to our clients.

  • Nitrous Oxide – One of the most effective techniques in Sedation Dentistry is the use of Nitrous Oxide. Also known as "laughing gas", it helps you relax and feel comfortable during a dental procedure. The effect of this gas works fast and wears off quickly. It is commonly used by most of the dentists.
  • Oral or Pill Sedation – Oral Sedation is the best option for patients who are skeptical about needles or inhaling gas. With this pill, a patient stays sedated through his entire dental visit. This type of sedation works perfectly for patients undergoing longer or more complicated dental surgery. Even though he remains awake throughout the procedure, he will have little or no memory of the treatment. The effect of this sedation can last a few hours; and the patient is required to bring a friend along to be driven back home after the treatment.
  • IV conscious Sedation – In this type of procedure you will be closely monitored by our certified and experienced dentist. Nicknamed as 'twilight' or 'sleep' dentistry, this procedure puts you into a state of extreme relaxation. You will be able to understand and respond to the requests made by the doctor and you will have no memory of what went on during the procedure. Therefore, this type of sedation fits perfectly for fearful or nervous patients, especially for those who want no recollection of what happened during their dental surgery.
